Welcome to Reads of Winchester – my independent sewing studio nestled in the heart of Winchester. I work alone, by hand, and with heart, offering a more attentive approach to sewing machine care and garment alterations.
Every machine that comes through my doors is cleaned, adjusted, and treated with quiet dedication. Whether it’s a family heirloom or a trusty machine that’s worked for decades, I’ll restore it with the same level of detail I’d give to my own.
Alongside repairs, I offer bespoke garment alterations – from minor adjustments to careful repairs on beloved clothing. I believe in giving clothes a second life, and in finding joy in the details: the perfect hem, the even stitch, the mended tear that means a favourite can be worn again.

I sell a selection of restored sewing machines — each one cleaned, serviced and tested by hand, ready for everyday use or your next creative project. If you already have a machine, I also provide servicing and repairs to help keep it running smoothly, whether it's skipping stitches or just needs a general tune-up.
For clothing, I offer thoughtful alterations and repairs — from hemming trousers and adjusting fit, to mending well-loved garments with precision. And if you’re a home sewer, you’ll also find a small, handpicked range of haberdashery essentials like needles, pins, threads and bobbins — the little tools that make all the difference.
Every part of my service is done personally, with care and honesty — whether you're popping in for a spool of thread or bringing in a machine for a full service.
